The Recording Rooms are professional audio spaces designed for recording, research, and immersive sound projects. Both rooms are fully integrated into the Aalto Studios post-production network, providing seamless connectivity to all other audio and post-production facilities on campus.
Each room is equipped with microphone cabinets, and additional microphones can be reserved through Aalto Takeout. Users must bring their own computer and use their preferred software, as no digital audio workstations are installed by default.
Sound Recording 1: Dry Recording Room
The Dry Recording Room is an acoustically treated, almost anechoic space, ideal for clean and precise audio recordings. It can be used for standalone recordings or in conjunction with other Aalto Studios audio facilities.
Equipment
• Ferrofish Analog-to-Digital Converter (16 analog inputs and outputs)
• 8-channel microphone preamplifier
• RME Dante Digiface (computer audio interface)
• Intercom system (for communication with Studios 2503 and 2407)
• HDMI extender (to share images from 2407)
This room is particularly suited for controlled, isolated recordings with minimal ambient interference.
Sound Recording 2: Variable Acoustic Room
The Variable Acoustic Room is a flexible recording space designed for immersive audio installations and research projects. Unlike Room 1, it features an adjustable acoustic environment, making it suitable for a wider range of audio experiments.
Equipment
• 12.2.4 Genelec 8330P speaker system (for immersive audio playback)
• Ferrofish Analog-to-Digital Converter (16 analog inputs and outputs)
• 8-channel microphone preamplifier
• RME Dante Digiface (computer audio interface)
• Intercom system (for communication with Studios 2501 and 2407)
• HDMI extender (to share images from 2407)
This room is ideal for projects requiring 3D audio, spatial sound research, and immersive listening environments.
